Why South Cave?

With just three properties left for sale at our latest development Westcote Farm, South Cave is no doubt a popular area to live. But why choose South Cave? We’ve looked into five features that draws in crowds to the historic village.

History

Dating all the way back to the 11th century, South Cave has a rich history, bits of which can still be seen in the village today.

Listed as a conservation area by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, South Cave is ‘an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’. You can find out more information about the conservation area here.

From the Market Hall – which was built over 200 years ago, and All Saints Church, to the extravagant Cave Castle that still stands tall, there’s plenty of history to explore within the small village.

A historic Wold stone dovecote is also situated on Westcote Farm itself, which would have been used in the past by the aristocratic elite to keep their doves.

Local landscape

South Cave has the unique benefit of having the Yorkshire Wolds on its doorstep. Great for both those that like a casual stroll or a long walk with the dog, there are a variety of routes within walking distance. Explore the local area and admire the scenic landscape whilst you stretch your legs and take in the country air.

A picturesque stream also runs through Westcote Farm itself if you prefer something a little closer to home.

Though seemingly surrounded by green fields and picturesque landscapes miles away from city life, South Cave is in fact just 14 miles away from Hull City Centre and an hour from the centre of Leeds. This makes the scenic village ideal in terms of the daily commute, without the irritating view of motorways and flowing traffic. There are also regular buses for those that prefer taking public transport into Hull.

Forget the negative connotation that facilities in smaller villages are few and far between, South Cave is a hive of activity. With a range of independent boutiques and cafés for locals to browse, there is a post office, pharmacy, GP, dental practice, mobile optician, library, corner shop and a bank in the centre. Not to mention two pubs – perfect for spending a lazy Sunday afternoon enjoying a roast or meeting the neighbours over a friendly drink.

Cave Castle is also famous for its Sunday lunches and afternoon teas, so definitely worth a visit!

Family friendly

A local primary school and leisure centre means that South Cave is ideal for young families. Sports and social clubs in the village give children the chance to meet new friends and learn a new skill, and the various independent stores in the centre give families the chance to meet like-minded locals and organise play dates.

Risby Homes Christmas Hamper Winner!

To celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we ran a competition to win a luxury hamper full of festive treats and all the essentials for a fantastic Christmas.

The hamper was filled with an assortment of Gin, mince pies, biscuits, a selection of hot chocolates, Yorkshire tea (of course!), Port and a beautifully made Gisela Graham fir wreath with fruit and berries.

After running the competition, which involved liking the Risby Facebook page and commenting who you would like to share the hamper with, we announced the lucky winner Chris Reader!

Chris has given the hamper to his mother as an extra Christmas gift because she ‘deserves a little treat’, after a tough year.

“Thank you for this, I really appreciate it. That’s the first time I’ve ever won something, I’m over the moon with that. I’m going to give this to my mum as it’s been a tough year.”
